In the Media - June to December 2014

Research from FIMS professor Nadine Wathen and postdoc Jen MacGregor made news around the country on November 26, 2014, when results from their year-long study into the impact of domestic violence in the workplace were revealed.  A press conference was held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, while Western led its own announcement on campus.  For one example of the coverage, see “Western University studies domestic violence in the workplace.”

Sarah Roberts, Assistant Professor, was interviewed for the article "The Internet's Invisible Sin-Eaters," for The Awl on October 28, 2014. (The article centres on the content moderation industry, which Professor Roberts has studied extensively.  It contains material that may be offensive to some people).

Professor Roberts also appeared on CBC's Q, on Tuesday, November 4.

Alison Hearn, FIMS professor and current UWOFA president, was featured in the Western News article “UWOFA president aims to keep association’s profile high”, on October 8, 2014.

Kane Faucher, Assistant Professor, appeared on The Agenda on October 6, 2014, in an episode titled "A New Work Reality? Putting a face to the reality of Ontario's labour market."

Tom Adam, MLIS alum and Western’s project manager and special advisor to the provost on copyright, appeared in the Western News article “Western addressing copyright in shifting national landscape,” on October 2, 2014.

Bhavin Prajapati, HIS master's student, appeared in two Western News articles.  On September 11, he was featured in "Campus Digest: Health, wellness program targets grad students," and "Student entrepreneurs: Why not build your own experience?"

Both Nadine Wathen's (Associate Professor) research group PreVAiL, and FIMS, appeared in an article in the Londoner in relation to a funding announcement. PreVAiL is part of an international group who will receive SSHRC funding to study the impacts of domestic violence on the workplace.  The article is titled, "Addressing domestic violence in the workplace."

Kane Faucher, Assistant Professor, appeared in an Ira Basen radio documentary about sessional instructors at universities, which aired on CBC Radio's The Sunday Edition on Sept 7th.  Listen to the doc.
