Degree Choices
Degree options available in MIT
First-year students in MIT will spend their initial year in general studies, which will include several courses required for continuation in the MIT program. During that year, you will have the opportunity to discover which academic path best suits you. In FIMS, we have a dedicated team of Undergraduate Student Services staff who will help you decide where you fit in so that you can feel confident about your academic decisions.
MIT Honors
Admission Requirements
Completion of all first-year requirements with no failures. Students must have an average of at least 72% in 4.0 principal courses, with no mark in any principal course below 60%, and including a minimum grade of 70% in each of Media, Information and Technoculture 1021F/G and 1022F/G, or Media, Information and Technoculture 1020E, and Media, Information and Technoculture 1025F/G.
Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee a position in the program.
Once admitted to the MIT Honors program, students are required to continue meeting progression requirements, as outlined by university policy.
MIT Major
Admission Requirements
Enrolment in all modules in Media, Information & Technoculture is limited. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee that students wishing to enter any module in Media, Information & Technoculture will be offered enrollment.
Admission Requirements Completion of first-year requirements, including a minimum grade of 60% in each of MIT 1020E or MIT 1021F/G and MIT 1022F/G, and MIT 1025F/G.
Once admitted to the MIT Major, students are required to continue meeting progression requirements, as outlined by university policy.
MIT Minor
Media Studies complements every field of study. If you are enrolled in another faculty, consider a Minor in MIT. The Minor will provide you with imperative, cutting-edge critical media literacy skills and help you understand the complex ways that media, information, and technology inform our world.
Admission Requirements
- Completion of first-year requirements, with an average of at least 65%
- Completion of Media, Information and Technoculture 1050A/B is recommended

MIT/HBA Honors
Admission Requirements
Students apply for the combined program during their HBA1 year. Admission to the combined program is competitive and limited. Students must complete all requirements for the first two years of the Honors Specialization in MIT, obtain a minimum two year average of 80% with no failures, and achieve a minimum 70% in Business Administration 2257. Demonstrated participation in extracurricular and/or community activities, leadership and work experience are also admission criteria. Students applying to the Ivey Business School's Advanced Entry Opportunity (AEO) are also eligible to be considered for the combined program.

Once admitted to the Honors Specialization MIT/HBA program, students are required to meet progression standards, outlined by university policy.
